Big Blue Brew 8/21: Brainy Bunch

Today, we're looking at gymnastics breaking records and track and field alumni being the world's best.

🔵 The Official Daily Newsletter For Kentucky Athletics

Good morning. And happy first day of classes to all who celebrate! Your alarm clock this morning wasn’t just a sign for you to wake up. It was also trying to tell you that time is up—all season tickets in Kroger Field are sold out. That's a whopping 40,200 season tickets, and all 6,500 student season passes gone. (We’re not counting down the minutes until kickoff or anything…)

What else are we mixing into today’s Brew?

🤸 Gymnastics earns Academic Awards
🏃 Six track and field alumni compete at World Athletic Championships
🔵 And much, much more!

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 7-11. A total of 18 Kentucky gymnasts earned Women’s Collegiate Gymnastics Association All-America Scholar-Athlete status—with seven earn a 4.0 individual GPA and the remaining 11 contributing to the 3.694 team GPA.

The team matched their winning season with their book smarts and ended with the highest GPA in the SEC and 14th out of all NCAA Division I gymnastics programs. Not to mention they also broke a record with 18 gymnasts, four more than their old best record during the 2021-2022 season.

🔼 At the Top. Alumni are taking over for Kentucky again and this time, they are in Budapest, Hungary competing in the World Athletics Championships.

Five student-athletes—Daniel Roberts, Keni Harrison, Micaela Hazlewood, Alexis Holmes and Masai Russell—are on Team USA. Jasmine Camacho-Quin is on Team Puerto Rico, and former volunteer coach Devynne Charlton is on Team Bahamas.

The competition started this weekend and ends on Sunday, August 27. You can watch the event on TV and follow their stats in the links below.

🤔 BIG BLUE TRIVIA

Put a ring on it. The men’s soccer team just got their ice and are showing it off (as they should!) after going 15-1-5 overall last season and winning the Sun Belt Conference Tournament.

Today’s question—how many of those 15 wins were shutouts?

🔵 ONE BIG THING

Setting the stage. Volleyball served up a win against Western Kentucky in their exhibition match this past weekend. The new stage for the team brought in 1,389 fans, and head coach Craig Skinner said it doesn't feel as big as it looks when he’s out on the court.

The team adjusted to changing courts with ease putting up a 25-19 win in the first set and winning the third and fourth to bring home the victory.

The next home match is next Friday, September 1 against fifth-ranked Pittsburgh. See you soon!
