Big Blue Brew 8/9: Devin On Davey
Today, we've got coaches and athletes standing out beyond their stats.
🔵 The Official Daily Newsletter For Kentucky Athletics
Good morning. Kentucky women’s soccer is going aquatic for player nicknames this year, and Defender Grace Phillpotts is in need of one! Squid and Fish are already taken, but if you’ve got any ideas reply to this tweet and let us know.
What else are we mixing into today’s Brew?
🏈 Devin Leary earns spot on Davey O’Brien watch list

📈 STOCK UP
🔼 Devin On Davey. Kentucky senior quarterback Devin Leary is one of 35 quarterbacks selected to the 2023 Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Preseason Watch List—presented annually to the nation’s best college quarterback.
The transfer quarterback came to Lexington after four seasons at NC State where he completed 568-of-944 passes for 62 touchdowns, and his 6,807 career passing yards ranks sixth on NC State’s career list. Last season, he led NC State to a 5-1 record and a top-15 ranking in the national polls before suffering a season-ending injury. Prior to that, he was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Preseason Player of the Year and was one of 25 semifinalists for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award.
ICYMI: @UKCoachLZ is pretty awesome. Kentucky head women's basketball coach Kyra Elzy held her give back camp for the second year through her foundation. Being an athlete is about so much more than skill and Coach Elzy embodies that.

🔼 Give Back Camp. Kentucky women’s basketball coach Kyra Elzy’s Give Back Camp was a success. Her goal was to teach women empowerment and life skills through sports—and everyone in attendance received a backpack with school supplies, a Nike gift card for a new pair of shoes, and a whole lot of confidence headed into the new school year.
🤔 BIG BLUE TRIVIA
Dive in. There won’t be any more big splashes for Kentucky swimming & diving ahead of next season as new head coach Bret Lundgaard announced that head diving coach Ted Hautau, associate swim coach Jordan Lieberman, and diving graduate assistant Chuntin Wu will continue on with the program.
Today’s question is about longevity—which of the three assistant coaches has been at Kentucky the longest?

🔵 ONE BIG THING
Locked and loaded. Three Kentucky basketball players made The Athletic 2024 NBA Mock Draft. Here are the potential NBA stars they picked:
Justin Edwards is predicted to go No. 1. The freshman guard was ranked No. 3 overall by many national outlets. In Kentucky’s trip to Canada for the GLOBAL JAM event, he averaged 14 points, seven rebounds, two assists, and two blocks per game.
D.J. Wagner was picked at No. 22, and his footwork around the court makes him fast to get to his spots and perform.
Aaron Bradshaw is slotted in at No. 38. He’s a freshman forward who came in at No. 2 by Rivals and 247Sports.
