Big Blue Brew 8/18: Must See TV

Today, we're looking at when you can see women's soccer and volleyball on TV.

🔵 The Official Daily Newsletter For Kentucky Athletics

Good morning. Kentucky may only get 12 games on the gridiron this season, but the players get an unlimited number of opportunities to play Madden 24— and everyone thinks they’re the best at the newly released video game.

What else are we mixing into today’s Brew?

🏐 Volleyball is ranked and ready for some must-see TV
🏃 Cross-country tryouts coming soon
🔵 And much, much more!

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Just One More. Kentucky women’s soccer started the season in the victory column, defeating Eastern Kentucky by a score of 1-0 last night at the Wendell & Vickie Bell Soccer Complex.

The Wildcats got their lone goal from graduate forward Jordyn Rhodes, who netted the 37th goal of her UK career to move into a tie with Annie Gage for the second-most goals in program history—Kim Labelle leads the all-time list at 44.

🔼 The More The Merrier. Kentucky women’s volleyball got big news for the second time this week.

First, the Wildcats earned a top-10 ranking from the American Volleyball Coaches’ Association preseason poll. That’s the highest rank for any SEC squad and the fifth time they’ve ever been ranked inside the top-10.

Second, the SEC Network and the ESPN family of channels chose a grand total of 10 matches to air on national television. There’s a chance they can see one more appearance on the SEC Network on November 19 for the wild card selection games.

Any full-time academically eligible Kentucky students are welcome to come to the UK Outdoor Track and show off their skills.

🤔 BIG BLUE TRIVIA

Never satisfied. Emma Grome had an outstanding sophomore season last year as the setter led the SEC in assists, led her team to an SEC-best .285 hitting percentage, and was named SEC Player of the Year.

However, she wasn’t satisfied with their NCAA Sweet 16 finish last season and hopes the team can stay focused on winning another SEC championship.

Today’s question—what is the current win streak for Kentucky volleyball’s current run of SEC championships? (We’re counting solo and co-championships here, y’all.)
