Big Blue Brew 9/25: Pick-6 Max

Today, we're looking at Maxwell Hairston's two interception returns in the Vanderbilt game.

Good morning. Monday mornings can get repetitive, especially when it’s the same story of Kentucky football winning another game. But we wouldn’t want it any other way.

What else are we mixing into today’s Brew?

🔼 Max-imum Effort. So, what’s new in the Kentucky football realm? Not much, just the same old story of Kentucky winning another game by a lot. The Wildcats took a 45-28 win against Vanderbilt for their first SEC game.

Maxwell Hairston sure knew how to start and end the game with two interception returns— a 29-yard pick-six in the first quarter and a 54-yard interception return in the fourth. There were 21 points scored in the first, starting with JuTahn Mcclain's 36-yard rush, then Hairston's interception, and finally, Ray Davis had a two-yard rush. The team added a simple three points in the second with a 27-yard field goal by Alex Raynor.

But why not get even more of a lead against the Commodores? In the third, Davis had another short rush for a touchdown. The Wildcats added 14 more points in the fourth after Devin Leary had a 22-yard pass to Dane Key and Hairston's second interception. Next up, the team faces Florida at home on Saturday.

🔼 Triple Tie. The women’s soccer team is three matches into conference play and has tied all of them. Although this is better than a loss, it is surprising the team has yet to get a W after going 6-1 in non-conference games.

The most recent tie for the Wildcats was against Florida, with a 1-1 final score. The defense worked hard to stop the Gators' 11 shots and only allowed one of the three shots on goal to score. Kentucky had six shots and four shots on goal. The lone goal was scored by Maya Lacognato in the second half to tie the game. See if the Wildcats can secure their first conference win in their next match against Alabama on Friday.

🤔 BIG BLUE TRIVIA

Big Win. With a 45-28 win over Vanderbilt, Kentucky improved its historical stats against the team in many ways. The Wildcats now lead the series 49-43-4 and scored the most points against them since 2005.

Today’s question—out of the past nine meetings, how many has Kentucky won?

🔵 ONE BIG THING

New Beginnings. The Wildcats pounced on LSU for their first win of SEC play. The team had a 3-1 victory over LSU, but even the set they lost in was very close, with a score of 25-23. One athlete set and tied multiple career highs. Freshman Brooklyn DeLeye had a career-high 19 kills, with only three errors, on 36 swings. Another career high she set was a .444 attacking percentage, and she had a career-best of seven digs.
