Big Blue Brew 9/27: Swiper Keep Swiping

Today, we're looking at Maxwell Hairston snagging another weekly award.

🔵 The Official Daily Newsletter For Kentucky Athletics

Good morning. “Swiper, no swiping” has always been seen as a negative phrase, but we are changing that today. Maxwell Hairston is swiping all the awards after his stellar football performance.

What else are we mixing into today’s Brew?

🔵 And much, much more!

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Anotha’ One. All we do is win, no matter what. And Maxwell Hairston has his hands in the air after being named SEC Defensive Player of the Week, Bronko Nagurski Trophy National Player of the Week and Paycom Jim Thorpe National Defensive Back of the Week Award. All it takes is one game of Hairston tying the SEC record of returning two interceptions for touchdowns, and all eyes are on him. If you feel like you don’t know Hairston by heart after all this talk about him, you can find out more here.

🔼 Cats Attack. The sky is more blue in Malibu, especially when Kentucky plays its A game in the men’s tennis Malibu Showdown Invitational. Scores weren’t officially kept for this event, but we kept track of our glory. The men competed against Pepperdine, Louisville, and Michigan in singles and doubles matches.

Overall, Kentucky went 2-1 over both Louisville and Pepperdine. The battle was tight against Michigan, and two singles matches elected to play a super tiebreaker in lieu of their set due to time constraints. The three freshmen— Matt Rankin, Eli Stephenson, and Jack Loutit— went 7-2 combined in singles, and Rankin led by a perfect 3-0 record.

🤔 BIG BLUE TRIVIA

Memory Madness. It’s been a while since we’ve mentioned the Bronko Nagurski Trophy watch list. Way back in August, the preseason watch list came out, and one Kentucky football player was on it, and Hairston makes it two now.

Today’s question— what football athlete is on the Bronko Nagurski Trophy watch list?

🔵 ONE BIG THING

One Month Away. A Nov. 6 game was too long of a wait for basketball season, so head coach John Calipari gifted us with Oct. 27 and Nov. 2 exhibition games. Inside Rupp Arena, you can see the Wildcats take on Georgetown College and Kentucky State. The KSU game will serve as the Unity Series, which aims to raise awareness of the missions of historically black colleges and universities and to raise funds to provide opportunities for students at their institutions.
