Big Blue Brew 3/5: WBB Breaks Records in SEC Round 1 Win

The women's basketball team beat Arkansas on Wednesday in round one of the SEC Tournament.

🔼 First Round. The women’s basketball team beat Arkansas in the first round of the SEC Tournament. Kentucky won 94-64 on Wednesday. This is the largest SEC Tournament win in the program’s history. Six players scored in double figures. Clara Strack led the way with 20 points, while also grabbing 13 rebounds and blocking three shots. Tonie Morgan and Jordan Obi also had double-doubles. This marks the first time since 2015 that Kentucky has had three players with double-doubles. Amelia Hassett reached 1.5k career points. In the first half, Asia Boone broke the record for most three’s in a single season. Hassett then broke that record in the second half. The Cats will face Georgia today 11am ET.

🔼 Sweep! The No. 21 baseball team swept its midweek series against Eastern Kentucky. The Cats secured a second win against EKU on Wednesday, 8-4. Kentucky is now 11-2 overall and has won six games in a row. Luke Lawrence scored three runs, driving in two and had an inside-the-park homer. The six pitchers totaled 10 strikeouts.

🔼 Quadruple It. The softball team beat IU Indy in a run-rule 9-1 victory on Wednesday. Carly Sleeman had four RBIs, and Karissa Hamilton had three. The Cats are now 18-4 overall and have won a season-high 12 games in a row, the program’s longest winning streak since 2021. The women start conference play this Weeknd against Auburn.

🔼 Tied Up. The women’s golf team tied for 11th place at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate. Kentucky finished with a team score of 880 (+28). Karlie Campbell led the Cats with a score of 216 (+3). She tied for 18th individually.

🔵 ONE BIG THING

SEC Honors. Two women’s basketball players earned Southeastern Conference honors. Clara Strack was named All-Southeastern Conference First Team and SEC All-Defensive Team. Tonie Morgan was selected to the All-SEC Second Team. Strack finished the regular season with 499 points, 305 rebounds, 77 blocks, 58 assists and 38 steals, becoming the only SEC player since at least 2002-03. Morgan is first in the nation in assists (245) and second in the nation in assists per game (8.2). She broke the single-season school record in assists with 214 through 25 games this season.
